ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP UFO 22

On the occasion of the Marconi Nobel Prize centenary, the Lion Clubs of Bologna and its surroundings have organised the Italian Championship UFO22, in cooperation with the Guglielmo Marconi Foundation and the Cattolica Sailing Association. Boats of the latest generation have raced in this prestigious competition.

It was a fitting occasion to celebrate the centenary of the Nobel Prize awarded to an important Italian citizen, and a way to remember the strong links between Marconi and Cattolica, where he owned a holyday house.

Since he was a boy and during his long and prestigious career, Marconi had a special relation with the sea. The first fundamental application of his invention was in shipping, and famous and important rescues of human lives at sea were made thanks to him and to the work of his radio operators. He travelled very often by boat until he bought the yacht Elettra at the age of 45 and used it as his mobile laboratory for over 15 years.

An exhibition on Marconi was organised from June 2nd to September 30th at the Tourism Palace in Cattolica.
