Quest’anno il Premio Marconi è stato assegnato a Andrew Chraplyvy e Robert Tkach, una coppia di scienziati dei Bell Labs (Laboratori Bell) le cui ricerche sulla non linearità della fibra ottica hanno permesso di ampliare enormemente la portata delle comunicazioni su banda larga a livello mondiale.
