July 15th, 2009
University College, Cork, Republic of Ireland

PRIME 2009 - 5th international conference on Ph.D. Research in Microelectronics and Electronics (July 12th-17th)

GUGLIELMO MARCONI, ENTREPRENEUR, NOBEL PRIZE FOR PHYSICS 1909

organised by
Michael Peter Kennedy (Department of Microelectronic Engineering, University College, Cork) and Barbara Valotti (Marconi Museum - Marconi Foundation)

A special session on Marconi was dedicated to the career of the young Bolognese scientist, with a particular focus on Marconi’s relationship with his Irish mother Annie, who encouraged and supported him since the very beginning, and on Marconi’s entrepreneurial activities, whose foundations were lain in the United Kingdom, especially in London, and later on spread throughout the world. Marconi’s international vocation is highly proved by the Nobel Prize he won at only 35 years old.
