Three Centenaries

May 23rd, 2009
Bologna/Rai Sport tv

The curious coincidence of THREE CENTENARIES (birth of Bologna Football Club, birth of the Giro d’Italia - the Tour of Italy bicycle race - and Nobel Prize to Guglielmo Marconi) has been commemorated during the Giro stage at Bologna.

In the morning, Francesca Menarini (President of Bologna Football Club), Angelo Zomegnan (Director of the Giro) and Stefano Alvergna, representative for the Nobel Prize Centenary Committee, have held a meeting in the beautiful setting of the Farnese Chapel.

The union of the three centenaries has also been sealed by joining a postal cancellation.

In the afternoon, after a live special dedicated by Rai (Italian State Broadcaster) to Marconi and Villa Griffone, Francesca Menarini and Giancarlo Corazza have rewarded the stage winner with a plaque and a medal in memory of this triple centenary.

Marconi was the creator of the present day civilization of the radio. All of those who, with spirit of initiative and perseverance, have brought us to the present stage of development have built on the foundations laid by Marconi. Everyone considered him the tutelary genius of their work.
